Digital Rights Nepal (DRN) initiated collaboration with the Constitutional and Judicial Journalists Forum (CJJF) on November 21, 2021. The initiative aimed to promote synergy on advocating the digital rights issue in Nepal. Different initiatives taken by DRN and CJJF were shared widely in the meeting and future opportunities for working together on digital rights advocacy were also explored. Attendees of the meeting were DRN Chairperson Mr. Santosh Sigdel, General Secretary Mr. Tanka Raj Aryal, President of CJJF Mr. Durga Dulal, General Secretary Ms. Bhasa Sharma and members Meera Basnet, Tufan Neupane, Madan Dhungana and Krishna Gyawali.

Mr. Santosh Sigdel highlighted the background and context of the establishment of DRN and stressed on the urgent need of protection and promotion of digital rights in Nepal. Mr. Tanka Aryal further added citing some bills pending in parliament which might negatively impact the digital rights as well as the rise of recent privacy violations incidents in Nepal. The CJJF team also affirmed the importance of digital safety and security in the current climate for journalists and possibility for collaboration in future endeavors. They suggested DRN team for knowledge sharing between two organizations regarding digital safety tips and digital rights issue. CJJF team also expressed their willingness to participate in a national digital rights survey that DRN is conducting in December 2021.

Digital Rights Nepal is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to the protection and promotion of digital rights in Nepal.
