Recently, WhatsApp introduced updates to its privacy policy which legitimizes user and transaction data-sharing to Facebook, Inc. Users who accepted the update by May 15, are subjected to the massive and discriminatory data-sharing practices between Facebook and WhatsApp.
In this context, Digital Rights co-organized an email sprint campaign on 26th June called ‘STOP FACEBOOK SAVE WHATSAPP’ where participants talked about the campaign, send out emails to local representatives, policymakers and authorities to inform them about WhatsApp’s discriminatory practices and the impact of the update of privacy policy. A total of 13 participants from DRN sent out emails to concerned authorities along with other participants. International Allies from Pakistan, India and Philippines also joined the email sprint campaign in solidarity. The campaign was successful on sending emails to concerned stakeholders in Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Philippines.
