Digital Rights Nepal (DRN) organized a meeting with Human Rights Journalists’ Association (HURJA) on November 19, 2021. The meeting was focused to promote collaborative advocacy on digital rights issue. The DRN and HURJA team discussed about digital rights advocacy from human rights perspectives. They explored opportunities for joint initiatives. The meeting was comprised of Chairperson and General Secretary Mr. Santosh Sigdel and Mr. Tanka Raj Aryal from DRN and President Mr. Ghanashyam Khadka, General Secretary Ms. Kalika Thami, Treasurer Mr. Bimal Khadka and Member Ms. Bhasha Sharma from HURJA. Both the teams shared about the discourse of digital rights advocacy and human rights promotion, the organizational struggle and the future planning.
The members of the meeting agreed on a point that COVID19 has exposed people to digital technology massively. Furthermore, they agreed on enhancing knowledge on digital rights and digital safety is essential for human rights defenders, journalists and general public. Considering the need, DRN and HURJA agreed to organize an orientation to the key human rights journalists and a two-day residential capacity building training in 2022. Additionally, they also decided to explore resources to promote digital rights in partnership of both the organization.
