Interaction on Digital Rights with Tech Journalists Association

Digital Rights Nepal (DRN) organized a virtual interaction with the journalists reporting on information, communication and technology on June 30, 2021, in partnership with the Technology Journalists Association (TJA). The meeting was successful on exploring the digital rights issues and challenges in Nepal and providing guidance on covering those issues from human rights perspective to the TJA members and other journalists. The meeting also helped DRN asess the level of awareness about the digital rights and safety issues among the journalists, especially covering the ICT issues. DRN Chair Mr. Santosh Sigdel highlighted the importance of adopting adoting human rights lenses while reporting on ICT issues in the event. The participants in the event stressed the need of building capacity of journalists on digital rights and security issues including freedom of expression, online privacy, data protection. DRN and TJA have agreed to further explore possible areas of collaboration to promote right-based ICT reporting in Nepal.
