Digital Rights Nepal (DRN) partnered with SpeakUp Nepal on 6 February and Youth Initiative on 7 February to host vital discussions on the proposed Social Media Bill, 2081. The webinars aimed to provide a comprehensive, provision-wise analysis of the bill, focusing on its potential impact on freedom of expression (FoE), online privacy, and the digital rights of citizens.
With mounting concerns about platform regulation, content moderation, and increasing state control over social media, the sessions brought together youths and social media users to critically assess the bill’s implications and discuss the way forward. These discussions were crucial in raising awareness about the bill’s potential effects on digital freedoms and expression.
