On 5 August 2025 (20 Shrawan 2082), Martin Chautari and Digital Rights Nepal successfully hosted a timely and insightful dialogue on Digital Rights and the Social Media Bill, 2081. The discussion focused on the proposed bill’s implications for freedom of expression, digital rights, content creation, and civic space in Nepal.
The session brought together voices from the CSO, media, and creative sectors, offering a well-rounded analysis of the bill. Speakers critically examined its provisions, raised key concerns regarding potential overregulation, and highlighted the importance of safeguarding democratic freedoms in the digital sphere. The conversation emphasized the need for a balanced, inclusive, and rights-based approach to digital governance that respects freedom of expression while addressing genuine online harms.
